So What Exactly is Tea, Anyway?

Hi everyone! My name is Eric, I’m an American husband and father and I love tea! You probably have a general idea of what tea is, however, that may mean different things to different people. Tea in the scientific sense is leaves from the tea plant (Camelia Sinensis). Some things are called tea that aren’t really from the tea plant, such as chamomile, rooibos, mint, yerba mate, lemongrass, etc. Those things are brewed in a similar manner as tea, but they aren’t tea. They are technically tisanes. The tea from the tea plant is what I will be referring to on this blog.

So, why tea, and why start a blog about it? Because I like tea, and it has great health benefits. I want to share it with anyone willing to listen.

Why call it a tea journey? I have been drinking tea for about three years now (April, 2019) and I have learned so much and at the same time, realized how much more there is to learn. It’s so fascinating and I could go all day talking and learning about it! So I’ll be posting about new teas that I try and what I think of them as well as any other tea-related things that are going on.

Thanks for reading!
